How I barely made it to Indonesia

How I barely made it to Indonesia

Initially, I didn’t feel like writing about this. It’s only when I couldn’t get it out of my head after more than a week, I thought writing might help me process the experience better…. Last week I entered Indonesia, barely… I was transferring ETIHAD flights in Abu Dhabi coming from Brussels. After seven hours of waiting in Abu Dhabi, we were ready to board an 8-hour flight towards Jakarta. From there I would take a six-hour train to what I would…

It’s time for some hypocrisy

It’s time for some hypocrisy

Driving into the last five hypocritic weeks of our trip we decided to use the car as our main mode of transport. Mostly to reach the remote natural places. Quite contradictive that in our modern society we need one of the most polluting ways of transport to reach the most beautiful natural places. By taking the car we do realize we are putting more pressure on our planet. We could have used public transport for some of the places we…

The good, the bad and the ugly…

It’s been a while since our last post and we know it! Therefore we are treating you with a massive post about our 3 weeks in Morocco. Our first time in Africa was beyond expectations and it has grown into an experience we will never forget… Tangier It was truly our first time stepping into Africa, the land of our ancestors where humanity originally came from. Morocco was our choice since we heard lots of good things about it. Coming from…

Family matters…

Family matters…

Ola!! Long time no hear and we have our reasons… In the end of May we explored Northern Portugal and Galicia together with Janick’s mom. Focusing on the natural parks and places inaccessible by public transport, we decided to rent a small car. This time we’re traveling more family style for 9 days. We started with a good hike in passadiços do Paiva, an 8.7 km wooden boardwalk along the bank of the Paiva river in Northern Portugal. Truly a…

Portugal!

Portugal!

The Portugal pictures are now online! Our favorite experience was obviously the Rota Vicentina, on which we wrote a dedicated post. That is bucket list material! Faro, Lagos and Sagres were surprisingly nice, but for us it was all about the surroundings, not the cities themselves. If you are ever in or near Lisbon, Sintra is definitely a must. It’s much nicer and so unique. We don’t really like Lisbon after seeing such a fairytale place like Sintra. Enjoy!

Rota Vicentina

Rota Vicentina

Two beautiful words to describe a magical coastline… The Rota Vicentina is a walking route completed a few years ago that stretches along the coastline of Southwest Portugal. It goes all the way through the “Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina” and is truly something. When we stayed in a hostel in Tarifa (Spain) someone there told us about it so we decided to give it a try. We walked only a part of it, from Aljezur (where…

Yurt sweet yurt…

Yurt sweet yurt…

After spending a week in Portugal we did another Workaway. Our motivation arises not only from the financial advantage but also the distinct experiences we had earlier in Catalonia. This time our host is a Dutch Frisian family of 5 (mother, father and 3 active blonde haired boys). They came all the way from the northern part of Holland, Frisia, to South Portugal. What a journey! And most importantly, what a change! They gave up their life and jobs in…

New pictures and experiences!

New pictures and experiences!

Besides selling our bike in Malaga, we also enjoyed the city itself and its surroundings. We went hiking in El Chorro for one day and then continued from Malaga to the mountainous Ronda. Ronda is definitely one the highlights of our trip. The location and its surroundings are just unbelievable. If you are ever in the area, you can easily visit Ronda with the train in one day from Malaga, back and forth. From Ronda, we went to the most southern tip…
